The Mad Man of Bolga

There is a custom among the Gurunsi ('Frafra') people of the Upper East Region of Ghana to bind insane relatives so that they are kept at home. The individuals who bind them are reputed to have a power to render even the violently insane so malleable that they can be fettered without any resistance. It is the relatives of the insane who can call upon such services. This play is a narration of the experience of one such bound 'mad man'.
