Bart Lonigan knew from the first moment he saw Emily that she was the one he would marry and raise a family with, but her father had something else to say about that. Just a simple blacksmith's assistant, he didn't have much to offer, but his love. He called on her after a random occurrence saw him in possession of the blacksmith shop. But he found another man had taken interest in Emily. When they butted heads the man vowed his revenge. He left Bart for dead in the middle of the dessert.
