You would have to be a bit long in the tooth now to remember Johnny Mo hitting the headlines in the sixties. In a career spanning less than ten years, with the help of his colleagues, he solved over a hundred cases, a few of the more notable ones for our government agencies, making him one of the most illustrious private eyes of all time. However, an acute annoyance to the press, Johnny and his crewmembers never once agreed to be interviewed. For most of us, they remained a mystery. I tracked Johnny Mo down in 2008. I felt his was a story that had to be told. He took a lot of convincing of that before agreeing, and in the end only doing so to ensure that should history remember any of them, it would be correctly. I was soon to discover, theirs was a story so diverse, it could not have been told until now in our far less moralistic times. Necessarily explicit in places, but hopefully not pornographic in anyone's mind, as well as learning the truth about some of the cases, it's a pioneering rollercoaster of relationships that often cross sexual boundaries, and it has its share of heartaches, but probably not as you might expect. With diverse sexualities, recreational drugs, and little regard for society's values of the day, this account of Johnny's working life comes with all warts intact. Cosy readers, beware.
