Cameron, an aristocrat descended from King William IV, was educated at Eton College and Brasenose College in Oxford. In 1988, he earned a first-class degree in economics, politics, and philosophy. Cameron joined the Conservative Party Research Department and was appointed as Michael Howard's and Norman Lamont's special adviser. In 1994, he began working for Carlton Communications as director of corporate relations. In 2001, he was elected as the Witney MP. Cameron came to prominence as the front-runner of a new generation of Conservatives; he was a youthful, personable, moderate figure.
