Rookie Kyle Cooper is thrust into responsibility when Detective Sawyer drops dead of a heart attack at a murder scene. Unflappable Medical Examiner, Doctor Samantha Trout, coaches Kyle through the transition with help from Stacy Lambert, the Crime Scene Technician.
