The 4th story in The Ingshall Series, following the abnormal inhabitants of an isolated hamlet in Norfolk. Kern develops an obsession with mermaids and the Aquatic Ape Theory, after learning that such a creature may have been found washed up on Ingshall's shore in the late 1820s and buried in the grounds of St Margaret's Chapel. Owen the necrophiliac decides the time is right to get engaged to Elizabeth, his mummified girlfriend.
