Beskrivelse
The Indian Ocean is a critical artery for global commerce, a highway to conflict zones, and a potential location for geopolitical strife. The region's importance for the international economy and international security is increasing, yet the US does not have a coherent strategy for protecting its interests in the Indian Ocean or managing diplomatic relationships across the region. This volume examines US grand strategy in the context of the Indian Ocean region and presents a range of viewpoints about whether and how the US should to alter its diplomatic and military strategies for this region. What are US interests in the Indian Ocean, and how critical and imperiled are they? The contributors' assessments and proposed solutions for American strategy offer a range from minimal to maximal change and engagement. The book concludes with an assessment of these options by the volume editors and a discussion of implications for US policymakers.
