Beskrivelse

Since the dawn of time, all peoples have had to confront a problem: how to make compensation for an injury? The problem obviously affects victims of war, but other victims too. How were the victims of crimes, accidents at work or accidents for which no-one was responsible indemnified? In spite of its indisputable progress, at the start of the 21st century medicine is still unable to regenerate complete structures of tissue, an entire limb, for example. We therefore cannot speak of the reparation of a physical injury in the strict sense of the term, but rather of compensation or indemnification. This book seeks to trace the development of this problem for society from the dawn of humanity to the present day. It does not claim to be an exhaustive study but has been constructed as an overall approach to the different civilisations of each historical period. There will thus be sections on the laws of ancient Babylon, Roman law, the laws of the Greek philosophers, Germanic laws, the religious texts of China, the laws of Caribbean pirates and many others. For the current period, the work is confined to the situation in France.
