The Green Cockatoo

"The Green Cockatoo", a play in one act, is a prime example of Schnitzler playing with the Pirandellian factor of illusion and reality. The play takes place in a sordid Paris tavern in 1789, on the night of the storming of the Bastille. Various actors from local theaters are performing impromptu scenes of crime for the debased delectation of the slumming Parisian aristocracy.
