The Great and Abominable Church

The author, Professor Hester said, "I want people to draw their own conclusion, based on the actual facts; I want people to draw their own conclusion, based on real logic. And, I want people to draw their own conclusion based on real history, without their intellect being clouded by some other person's opinion and interpretation. If you cannot approach this question with an open mind, if I were you, I would set this book down and read no further. If you are a person who can think for yourself, think logically, read the facts, and then come up with your own conclusion, then maybe reading this book will help you find the truth." There are conflicting opinions within the Mormon community between liberal members and conservative members, concerning the identity, of which church of our day, is The Great and Abominable Church that is mentioned in the Book of Mormon and the D&C. Liberals whether or not they are members of the Mormon faith, tend to re-write history and cast it a manner that makes it easier to deal with. Taking the liberal's point of view, no one church would ever be identified as The Great and Abominable Church; thus, rendering Nephi's prophecy impudent and turning God into a rather whimsical character who, at best, is tolerated by mankind. The true nature of God, is a God of consistency with immutable laws that do not change from one generation to the next. He is a God of justice and mercy; justice and punishment and mercy, and forgiveness. Mercy cannot rob justice and in this case God promises to destroy The Great and Abominable Church on the Great and Dreadful Day of the Lord. Liberals may agree that some church will probably be destroyed, but which church, is the question. The Great and Abominable Church's name is identified by reviewing the early history of all Christian religions. When that is done by an unbiased mind it becomes very clear that the Catholic Church is The Great and Abominable Church. The author explains, "According to the Plan of Salvation, men are judged according to their "own" sins; they cannot be punished for the sins of someone else. To do so would pervert the Plan of Salvation as we know it. But we, the LDS members of the Church have long condemned the Catholic Church of today for the sins committed by the Roman Catholic Church of the Dark Ages. And, The author explains, "According to the Plan of Salvation, men are judged according to their "own" sins; they cannot be punished for the sins of someone else. To do so would pervert the Plan of Salvation as we know it. And the author insists, "Our actions as, members of the LDS Church, has been reprehensible and we collectively need to repent and make amends to our Catholic neighbors."
