True to His Word, God had punished the world for its wickedness, but spared Noah because he found grace. Shortly after the ark had settled on Ararat, Noah had offered an animal sacrifice by shedding blood. It was in this worship service that God smelled a soothing aroma and promised Noah that 'he who sheds man's blood, by man must his blood be shed.' Understanding this to be a command rather than a promise, scholars believe that this is a reference to capital punishment. But as centuries of commentary and mistranslation dust are wiped from this gem, there emerges an image of Jesus Christ that is nothing less than astounding!
