She's beautiful. She's intelligent. She's honest. She's caring. She's imaginative. She's sentient. But she's an android. Detective Inspector Karen Chambers, head of NewMet City Police Department's Sexdroid Unit, meets Coppélia for the first time when she's called in to assist an SVU detective who isn't convinced that the victim in front of him is human. After identifying Coppélia as an android, Karen and her Detective Sergeant and best friend, Rachel, face a dilemma. Coppélia is obviously no ordinary sexdroid - her construction is of the highest quality - and she's far more technically advanced than the sexdroids that the police officer normally deals with. The more time the two police officers spend in her company, the better they understand that there is more to the android than initially meets the eye. Police protocol states that they should identify Coppélia's owner and return the machine, but Karen senses that there's a far greater mystery attached to Coppélia's existence and, bonding with the android in a way that she never would have thought possible, an intimate friendship forms between human and android. Just like a human, Coppélia has questions about her own existence and creation. She understands how she was created but has a desire to know why she was created. So, the unorthodox couple embark upon an eye-opening quest to discover Coppélia's origins and purpose - both totally unprepared for what they discover.
