Indian Agent James McLaughlin finds himself brokering a deal between the Shoshone and Arapahoe tribes to sell part of their reservation, including the sacred "Smoking Waters" to the United States government. McLaughlin finds the needs of his employer and the needs of the tribes may be two conflicting destinies.
