The German Novel of Education 1792-1805

Professor Germer investigates a genre not hitherto isolated, the -Novel of Education-, which he separates from the -Bildungsroman-. A complete bibliography of almost four hundred numbers was compiled. The content of these books was then tabulated according to aims, vices, virtues, social positions etc., and a list of formal characteristics was added. As a result, this work is a major contribution to the study of the later phases of -Enlightenment-, rich in quotations and references and useful also for further studies."
