The Forty-Five Guardsmen is the sequel to Chicot the Jester, and a portrayal of the court of Henry III, a band of his guards, The Forty-five guards, and their revenge upon the murderer of their former leader, Bussy d'Amboise. Alexandre Dumas was a French writer whose works have been translated into nearly 100 languages. His historical novels include The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers, The Corsican Brothers, and The Man in the Iron Mask.
