In the summer of 1972, a young Brazilian-American woman fresh out of art school takes a summer job restoring paintings at a hunting lodge in Germany's Black Forest. Her wanderings in the lush woodland surrounding the estate become the vehicle for a quiet, thoughtful adventure filled with richly layered digressions - from childhood memories and road trips, to moths, Brazil, and Big Sur, to the atomic bomb and Hollywood movies - amid a backdrop of forest splendor, hidden wonders, and crumbling ruins.
