War rips people's lives apart. In 1939 Violet leaves her life of poverty, grime and all she knows in the East End of London for the relative safety of the Surrey countryside and Rose's home. Not a safe enough home for the spoilt Rose whose father sends her to New York to keep her safe as the fear of war becomes a reality. Can Violet's new life become Rose's old life? What if Rose wants it back? Neither girl is safe and neither wants the other in their life, but it could be all they have.
