This is a story about my struggle to have a family. I was married at 19, my husband was 20, we decided to wait to have babies. Four years into the marriage my husband became paralyzed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS). I'm 23 and I'm faced with the fact that I'm going to be a widow. I was told that if he survived, the best I could hope for was he would be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. The one thing that got him through his illness was having a baby and completing, "THE FAMILY PORTRAIT."After surviving GBS what we thought would be a natural, normal experience of having a baby, was not. Everyone knows someone who has lost a baby or maybe you have lost a baby yourself. When you have a baby, the baby changes your life. When you lose your baby you lose your identity. Are you still a mom or a dad? It's a story of perseverance: "THE FAMILY PORTRAIT"
