However, The Exile is not only an account of the time of the Reformation and the Counter-Reformation ... although it is that. The fact is, it constitutes a description of how different societies define and shape not only the present but also the future based on the values they embrace. These values make them strong or quite weak when dealing with crises and put them on the path to either a prosperous future or a repetition of disasters already suffered in the past. The same could be said of brothers and doctors, rogues and clergymen, friends and loved ones, children and judges. However, despite their anonymity, each and every one of them is affected by the social mores surrounding them. The Exile is a work of fiction, but it addresses real and above all, transcendental questions for societies and people, people whose names will never appear in books as is the case with the protagonist and others in this novel. They are anonymous, but not for this reason have they stopped making contributions, often mean and reprehensible, like those of Fernando and Alfonso, but also beautiful and positive like those of the exile's neighbor, the doctor with the goatee and Marguerite. The Exile is for all those who make their way through the world in search of peace and freedom.
