The End

This fable-like tale begins as Matthew Parkrow approaches Alamogordo, New Mexico on horseback. He has just escaped from a rock festival at the Altamonte race track in California that degenerated into violence and murder. High School and college baseball star, highly decorated Vietnam veteran yet dishonorably discharged protestor, and a rebel seeking meaning to his existence during one of the greatest periods of conflict in our history, Matthew is a walking contradiction who experiences the devastating tensions of the times between war and peace, parents and children, family and friends that tore the country apart and nearly paralyzed a nation. Matthew is immersed in the social and political "underground" of the sixties and a university English teacher who is searching for his best friend from childhood whom he believes he was responsible for possibly killing inadvertently in the Vietnam war. Rumors of him still being alive fuel his search. When they finally meet as doctorate candidates the sparks fly. Rooted in the author's personal experiences fighting the two wars of the Sixties (the Vietnam War and the counterculture war), Matthew Parkrow's is the quintessential story of the Sixties.
