The Desperado has her own agenda in The Belge Republique, which involves espionage, flame throwers and other armaments, explosives, sabotage and more. All of this is used to protect the settlements of the Essene Crystal Rune Growers. Specific references are made to the 'Holocaust' on Earth from 1932-33 to 1945-46.
