The Desolate One is a series of stories that convey the life of an individual from infancy to adulthood. Life is full of physical and spiritual experiences. This volume tells the origin story of the main character. Coming of age in the 1970s brought his parents adversities and struggles as they were young, in love, and faced with life-altering decisions.

The Desolate One chronicles the author's life and times. Although this work is considered autobiographical, certain surnames, such as Catherine Jackson and Douglas Maurice Gerald Jackson, are used to protect the identities of those real-life figures introduced in the story.
