Usually a man is born, lives, then dies. And, in conformance with social niceties, he makes sure he goes through the cycle just the once. Like everyone else. So how were our townsfolk expected to react when Cyrus Wesir took it on himself to die on two separate occasions, then compounded it by disappearing to where no one could find him? That sort of blasé attitude to the mysteries that surround life and death? It's hardly a surprise that pretty much everyone in town was scandalized by what he'd done.
Yes, he had help. We'd be the last to deny it. But the turmoil he caused was so bad, the therapeutic and legal industrial complexes had to be called in to help restore at least some semblance of order. Though with so much disruption to how things are supposed to work, who knows if they'll be able to return any sense of wholeness to our townsfolk in this, the most probable of all possible worlds.
