The pandemic in the territories of the Ottoman Empire broke out in the capital city of Istanbul, in June of 1812. It was mild at first, but in late August, the situation became critical. By September, about 2,000 people were dying every day. In December, the pandemic subsided, but later re-emerged.

As now, back then, people were bewildered, and in complete shock that such destruction and death could be caused by an unseen creature. Yes, they believed it was a creature that came in the night and attacked innocent individuals. Furthermore, remember, 200 years ago, the world was not in such close communication with one another. Each country dealt with the pandemic in their own way.
