The Darkest Night

Liberty is the shining light that draws the world to us! Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Not for some, not for a select few, but ALL. In the last few years, we have slipped that torch of freedom from beside the golden door to a place of terror. The huddled masses live in fear of discovery. Only those true believers in the goodness of all souls and the courage to back their beliefs with an action shall survive this Dark Night.

Robert Larson is a gentle soul of 70, a retired educator whose wife passed from cancer several years earlier.

When I first moved here, Pedro Menendez showed up one day looking for some work. He offered to help me unpack, moved furniture around, and helped hang pictures. He said he would gladly do any work I needed to be done.

This small-framed man was stronger than an ox. Over the months, Pedro Menendez built the fence, helped me design, and build the raised beds. A high wooden fence now surrounds my backyard to keep wildlife from the desert from wandering in and helping themselves to the bounty of my garden.

Pedro Menendez said that he and his wife Maria made a handsome couple. Pedro was all of 27 and Maria 26. Pedro explains they had five children Pedro Jr whom they called Pepe, was 10, Amada was 8, and she was as pretty as her mother. Juan was six and was a bit of a trickster, Mercedes was four, and the sweetest child, and Carlos was 2.
