The Battle for Midway marked the turning point of the fighting in the Pacific of WWII. There were larger naval battles during the war, and more decisive, but in this battle the Japanese suffered their first defeat of the war. It was won by a smaller American fleet, and it avenged the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
