A book solely focused on being a goalkeeper in women's lacrosse!
In The Complete Women's Lacrosse Goalkeeper, John Knowles and Natalie Arieno delve into the various aspects required of the goalkeeping position. Learn insights, from both a coaching and player perspective, on how to find success in both saving the ball and being an impact player.
Over the past decade, John has been involved with the local Rochester NY women's lacrosse community, coaching goalkeepers at all levels. He is currently the Goalie Coach for Division II Women's Lacrosse at Roberts Wesleyan College, and the owner of Deny Goalkeeping. Natalie is currently a student athlete goalkeeper at Division II Roberts Wesleyan College, as well as the club goalie coach for 3D Common Goal.
Whether you are coaching the position, or playing the position, The Complete Women's Lacrosse Goalkeeper provides a look into the techniques, tactics and mentality which will help the goalkeeper elevate her game. Read thoughts, and learn about:
Coaching the Lacrosse Goalie - building the coach/athlete relationship and keeping the goalie properly "grounded" with an elite perspective.
The Set Position - the foundation of every save, and how this can look different for every goalie.
Save Mechanics - the importance of technique with the understanding that, come game day, a save is a save.
Interceptions and Playing Defense - the goalie's role as the 8th defender.
Clearing - after being the last line of defense and ending an opponent's possession, it is now time to start the offense.
Positioning and Movement - the understanding of what you are "lining up" with and fine-tuning your angles.
Tactical Aspects - thoughts on the non-technical aspects of the game.
Mentality and Mindset - when the going gets tough, it is the strength between the ears that will make the difference.
Warm-Up: From a Goalie's Perspective - an example of, and thoughts regarding, an effective warm-up.
"You can now toss out your collection of old goalie manuals and videos because by the time you flip the last page of this Book you will have absorbed enough tactical and technical aspects of the women's/girl's lacrosse goalkeeper position to be the best teacher and/or player you can be." - Kristin C.
