The Colors of Kiev: Poetry in the trenches "Love verses from the front"

Book candidate for the 1st Edition of the "Strega Poetry Prize 2023": the most prestigious Italian literary award.

"The lyrics contained in the collection represent a courageous experiment in reconstructing the emotional dimension of Olena, a young poet who sends letters in verse to her beloved, a partisan on the Ukrainian war front.

The author, Anna D'Auria, with a game of narrative doubling, lends her pen to the voice of the protagonist thus realizing a love correspondence between a she and a he divided by hatred of war. Despite the precise historical setting, paradoxically the poems rise from the particular and take on a universal value, as an instrument of brotherhood beyond divisions, flags and partisan interests: love belongs to everyone, Ukrainians and Russians.
