Hiram Boetticher III is a young black man struggling to survive in Alabama during the 1980s. The one route open to him from the South is football. But he's realistic about his chances.

One night, while walking home from a party, he's approached by his coach. An evening of rough sex in the nearby woods with the man's wife leads to twists and turns that change Hiram's life forever.
