Socrates has been quoted as saying, "An unexamined life is not worth living." For years, Ted Heaton has been a strong devotee of Socrates, so when one morning, an unexpected gift of a chipped Buddha he would later call Irving was left at his front door, he had a realisation about what self-acceptance as a man can really mean. After years of childhood sexual, physical and emotional abuse, stalked by a pack of wolves, chased by mafiosa, threatened with death by fathers, husbands and ex-husbands, suffering the wrath and cost of many wives and confronted by Mounties, Ted's expectations of reaching enlightenment were remote. But the passion generated by the imperfect Buddha's presence drove him to explore his own imperfect life and by so doing, helped others find what he has - happiness and meaning.
