Beskrivelse
The black & white house has a special place in the colonial history of Singapore. It was very much the quintessential home of the expatriate Englishman. As an amalgamation of English, Indian and Malay design features, these houses have an architectural uniqueness that has seen them become conservation properties in Singapore. However, in post-colonial Singapore, these properties are now increasingly rare and the gardens and landscapes on which they sit are the target of land redevelopment schemes. Peter's photographs of black & white houses, within the landscapes on which they rest offer a view of the black & white house has never been captured before. These images are unique and evoke a memory of a bygone era as well as a call for the conservation of the landscapes on which the black & white house sits.
