This is a Bible guide in two volumes which unpacks the content, meaning and relevance of each book of the Bible. Volume 1 covers the books of the Old Testament. For each book there is a clear summary of what it is all about and how it fits into the overall themes of the bible. The main events and characters are set out, along with the well-known stories. For narrative books a commentary is provided and for non-narrative books a description of the main significance of the book and its cultural context is explored.
