In September of 2013, John Kenworthy boarded a bus bound for Morogoro, Tanzania. He carried with him only a small knapsack, a heart filled to bursting with compassion for the children of Africa, and a small blank notebook in which he hoped to document his journey. "The Beast" is the result of that journey. Initially believing that he was writing a real-time travelogue of sorts, Kenworthy discovered that he was in fact rushing ever-onward upon a 'Heart-of-Darkness' quest to the very belly of The Beast itself. Along the way, his stream-of-consciousness ramblings seemed to evolve. They began to swirl and spin like the dust eddies that trailed behind the bus as they moved ever onward. Undaunted, Kenworthy, Servant of the Dust that he is, wove sentimental stories and anecdotes of his past visits to Tanzania intertwined with heartfelt tales of the people who had influenced him most along the way, his mother, Pastor Terry - and of course, the many children of Tanzania. Oh, yes, always the children...
