The Art of Communication focuses on the problems that Japanese English speakers have when communicating with gaijin are not because of language, but because of communication behavior and manner differences between Japanese and gaijin. The problem with most Japanese English speakers is that even though they are speaking English they are communicating and behaving in a manner that is unique to Japanese communication behavior and manner. These unique Japanese communication behaviors and mannerisms are very different to the mannerisms of gaijin communication and behavior. These differences often create misunderstandings and the inability for Japanese and gaijin to develop close human relationships based on rapport. Rapport defined, "is a close and harmonious relationship between people based on a two way understanding of each other's ideas and feelings and being able to openly communicate with each other in a way that both sides can clearly understand." Because Japanese and gaijin communication behavior and manner differences are so great it is important that Japanese English speakers understand these differences and have the ability to communicate and behave in a gaijin manner when using English. The Art of Communication focuses on these differences and why they create misunderstandings and the inability to develop rapport with gaijin. But more importantly, this book gives Japanese English speakers clear techniques on how to communicate and behave in a manner that will create rapport and eliminate misunderstandings based on the differences between Japanese and gaijin communication behavior and manner. The Art of Communication is written in a conversational style making it enjoyable and easy to read, and is a must read for any Japanese English speaker that needs to create close working relationships in business and in life. Even though this book is in English it was written in a way that any Japanese English speaker can easily understand, and is the perfect companion in your journey to building rapport with gaijin.
