Smallpox, measles, mumps, tetanus...the old enemies of mankind. Scientists have been hard at work for centuries vanquishing these foes. Those of us in the developed world live safe from our oldest enemies, shielded by childhood immunizations. Well, not all of us. There are a brave few, the modern-day Don Quixote’s if you will, who life on the knife edge of mortality. Eschewing the facts of science, they apply a mix of prayer, tinctures, and herbs to their young. They dance with death, holding tight to tiny hands. Will today be the day? Will their home-made cures save the day, or will evolution have its way?I present you an alphabet's worth of tales, tales of children thrown head-first into a dance with the grim reaper, only to lose horribly.
