The America You Didn't Know
From the outside perspective, America is endowed with wealth and happiness. But a closer look reveals a nation in self-doubt as violence increases and the ruling class slowly gives way to an informal group of unelected people.
The America You Didn't Know is an immigrant story of a Black man coming to America to seek higher education and a better life. The book documents many instances of success, but also pitfalls in American society that this immigrant did not know. Pitfalls especially in the White man's judicial system and dealing with the police and the FBI. The book also shows how many immigrants try to bridge the gap between their old life and the White man's world.
Perhaps this book will contribute to helping set policies to pre-train immigrants before coming to America to help people deal with the pitfalls in the White man's world. Perhaps the Peace Corps should broaden its scope of training and foreign governments too should step up to help its nationals with school fee payments and posting bonds when people fall into trouble.
At the moment, there is no form of financial assistance from either the US or the immigrant government. These are misfortunes foreigners don't know.
