This "word of exhortation" was penned to believers who doubted their conversion to Christianity. They were second-guessing their position in Jesus Christ. They were on the verge of defecting from the faith and going back to Judaism. In essence, the author of Hebrews was encouraging them NOT to walk away from what they believed. He encouraged them to keep their eyes on Jesus Christ. Hebrews shows us that Christianity is the true successor of Judaism. There would be no reason to turn back to practices found in Old Testament law. Jesus Christ has set you free. don't go back into bondage. In this commentary, we are going to discover that Jesus is far better than anything found in the Old Testament system. In book one we are going to consider some of the following concepts: Jesus is better than the ProphetsJesus is better than the Angels Jesus is better than Moses Jesus is better than Joshua Jesus is better than Aaron, the High Priest Jesus is better than Earthly Priests Jesus is better than the Tabernacle The book of Hebrews shows the SUPERIORITY of Christ and Christianity. It's theme rings out loud and clear - don't turn back. You have everything you need in the person of Jesus Christ. Remember beloved, Christ is not ONE among many, He is THE ONE among many. True Christianity is not ONE among many, it is THE ONE among many.
