Beskrivelse
This study reports on a theoretical relation between concepts of Emotions, the Framing approach and the construct picture. Based on research regarding visual news coverage of terrorism and emotional reactions of TV-viewers, the interconnection of these concepts is analyzed empirically. Study 1 illustrates a quantitative picture analysis of terrorism-related news coverage in German TV-news and identifies visual framing strategies. The coverage will be analyzed within a longitudinal survey (2007-2009). In order to determine the intensity of emotionalization of visual framing strategies, indices of fear, valence and arousal will be compiled empirically. This indices will be connected and applied to the data that has been acquired by content analysis. For that reason emotional reactions on a single-shot-level will be tested in study 2. One picture will serve as smallest unit, hence it constitutes a single frame-element. Several pictures consequently constitute a visual framing strategy.
