When The Violent Land came out in 1954, The New York Times Book Review said that "Wayne D. Overholser writes a true Western . . . a story that is impossible to put down " The twelve Western stories in this book were written for the magazine market during that same period when he was making the transition to writing novels. They have never appeared in book form since their first publication.
