A dynamic new framework for understanding the impact of technological change on jobs, workers and communities where production life cycle models are applied to human resource planning. Using case materials and field research from almost 200 international firms, the author demonstrates the impact of technological change on skill requirements and jobs in the workplace. Highlighted areas are the critical role of managers in determining the impact of technological change; the importance of a diversified employment base and how educators and employers can promote the institutional and curricular mix that best meets the evolving needs of the community they serve.
