Bringing Tangrams into the 21st Century New Edition: The contents of this book have been updated to include a grid for solving the puzzles inside the book. The puzzles range in difficulty throughout the book. Some are more challenging than others. All puzzles have solutions using the same 7 tans (shapes). The puzzles can be solved by drawing on the grid, or by using the tangram template provided in the book to make physical tangram pieces (tans).Note that the printed version of the book has the solutions in grayscale (black and white). Only electronic versions of the book have the solutions in color.Tangrams are ancient Chinese, ingenious puzzles. They are deceptively simple in design, yet can stump even the most seasoned of puzzlers. Then, the light clicks on and the answer suddenly seems so obvious. It's amazing that so many puzzles can be solved with the exact same 7 shapes. This book is a veritable tangram menagerie. It contains all sorts of critters from a praying mantis, armadillo, alligator, wolf, monkeys, and a skunk to a turtle, goat, buffalo, ferret, dogs, and even the Easter Bunny. Take your time, or race the clock, a friend, or your own mind to solve these fun puzzles.Following a brief introduction to tangrams, the main portion of the book provides challenging or whimsical puzzles to solve. The book is arranged to show a silhouetted puzzle, followed by its solution. This main section is followed by tidbits and trivia about tangrams and some famous people who have tinkered with them over the years. It also provides some tips and suggestions for those with a competitive streak. The text sections of the books in this series are essentially the same, but the heart of the books - the part that includes the tangram puzzles - remains unique. The vast majority of the puzzles have been designed by the author, Doug Nufer.
