Tanganyika Tales

These stories are about real children who lived in Tanganyika. Polly Flinders was real too, but he was killed by a bad dog which made the family very sad. Quilliam was real but he had to be left behind when we moved.



The tales are set at Newala, at Masasi, at Mjimwema and Masasi again. Fishermanfatlegs was real and so was his daughter Salima. There really are inexplicable fires on the insulburgs around Masasi.



The stories were written during the 1940s.



The children's father was a District Commissioner.



Sweet Swahili was our second Mother-tongue.
