Beskrivelse
The diaries and war writings of Kurt Riezler from the years 1910-1919 are a key source for the political history of the late Empire and the First World War. Quotes from the Riezler diaries are now found in every German history book that deals with this era. The publication of this source by Karl Dietrich Erdmann, which was first published in 1972, has in many respects set scientific standards. And yet, like no other historic edition, it became a topic of bitter personal and factual dispute for many years. The fierce dispute over the state secret of the diary occupied not only the professional world, but was also addressed by mass media and became synonymous with scandal in the historical profession.
