Symbols of America (Group 1)

Children see "Proud to be an American" signs on cars and in windows everywhere. Yet have they any idea what the words really mean? Do they understand why they pledge allegiance to the flat, sing "The Star-Spangled Banner," and celebrate the Fourth of July? Do they know why the Liberty Bell was rung, who signed the Declaration of Independence, why the Statue of Liberty holds a torch? It is the aim of Symbols of America to explain, in an engaging manner and with words young readers can readily understand, the origins and meanings of America's greatest symbols.
