Surviving the Shelter

"How do you sing the Lord's song in a strange land?" asks Deaconess Helen Franks with tears streaming down her face as she stares out of her bedroom window in the downtown homeless shelter. She and her husband Deacon Tom Franks along with their three children have been separated for months from their church family whom they love so dearly. Deacon Tom was laid off from his job and when their savings was ultimately depleted, they lost their home. Nearly a year after residing in the shelter with all five of them in one room, Deaconess Helen wonders if God is hearing their prayers. She finds herself tired, depressed and unable to sing the Lord's song in this strange place.
