Pepe wants to surf! The only problem is this is 1970's Portugal - and there are no surfboards. Well, there are a few, left in Portugal by English surf tourists returning from their Northern African trips. Still, Pepe is not one to give up - and will go on to become a Portuguese surfing pioneer, among wave-riding hippies, his unhappy brother, and ever more present drugs. Add to that heady mix the country's fight for independence, dodgy deals and suddenly disappearing policemen.

Thirty years on: Jan too is fascinated by the Portuguese lines, the waves of the Atlantic. Leaving his home island of Sylt in northern Germany, Jan starts building the dream of his own surf school in Ericeira, Surf Central. But Portugal too has bureaucracy and localism, strange German surf students, not to mention some shady offers. But the day will come when Jan and Pepe meet ...
