Sundog is a teenaged boy who was raised on a houseboat by unconventional parents. They have never let him go to school or learn to read. When the family comes to San Diego for the winter, he decides that no one - not his parents, the school authorities, or the neighbourhood bullies - is going to stop him from getting an education.
