The late-night shooting death of one of Sheriff McGurin's deputies in the parking lot of the Sugar Cookie Inn starts Miss Matilda on a difficult murder case. Miss Matilda must contend with a disruptive guest and two uncooperative state troopers determined to shut her out of the investigation as she seeks to solve the murder case. But as always, her kitchen cabinet of misfits along with her pit bull and her two parrots come to her aid. She soon has the troopers wishing they were some place else and the disruptive guest firing off nasty letters to Triple-A as she connects the dots. Maybe not always in a straight line, but at the end she solves the case.
