Beskrivelse
The book of Lamentations was most likely written by the prophet Jeremiah. The same one who prophesied the Babylonian attack on Jerusalem, the captivity and destruction of Jerusalem. He must have written it after the departure of the enemy armies. This is because he relates in great detail the afflictions experienced by those who were not taken captive.
In addition to the great sorrows suffered during his ministry and the persecution of his countrymen, Jeremiah now feels the pain of seeing the Holy City destroyed and the misery in which his countrymen and he live.
The prophet makes it clear that this is the result of his disobedience and rebellion against the Word of the Lord.
Jeremiah's Lamentations is one of the five books, along with Ruth, Esther, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs, that make up the third part of the Hebrew Bible.
