Over 25 years Matthew Williams has called himself a writer. And for those 25 years he has been encouraged to share his writing with the world. His answer was always no. His fear that only a few people actually enjoyed his particular brand of poetry was stronger than his desire to let his words speak for him in this arena. Now, the Kansas City native has decided to fight his fear in the best way possible. A collection of pieces from his earliest, to his most recent, Stories I Told Myself sees the writer embrace the poet he has been. And gives you a chance to see his growth as much as his particular struggles to describe his world.30 poems organized in sections of similar themes, Stories I Told Myself will at times feel more raw than intended. And despite some attempts to explain things, some will be taken out of context. As he would tell you, not everything is true, but calling it all a lie would be a lie on it's own. So he leaves it for you to decide when each poem was crafted.
